Growing Pains? Good For You!

Growing Pains? Good For You!

(Read in less than :03)“Do not claim you want to grow and then run away the minute you feel growing pains.”#bossbabe

Growing pains. Remember how your legs ached when you began to shoot up and get taller? I can still recall that deep ache in my own young bones. Our youngest suffered terribly with growing pains. Sobbing, she would crawl to my bedside in the wee hours of the night for comfort. I’d fill the deep farmhouse bathtub with hot water and rub her little legs as long as it took for the hurt to subside. We could do the routine half asleep. She, drifting in the tub, eyes closed. Me, with the side of the old tub for a pillow.

It doesn’t matter if we are 8 or 38 or 68, if we’re growing, we’re going to be out of our comfort zone and there will be pain. Last week I suggested right now is a great time for new growth. There’s no better month than September to go back to the classroom of abundant living. And that can mean feeling scared and awkward and messy. If you’re feeling any of that, great! You are about to learn something valuable about yourself!

Live on the edge and grow anyway

“You’ve got to go out on a limb sometimes because that’s where the fruit is.”~Will Rogers

For about a year, I’ve been skirting around the edges of an opportunity for growth that intrigued me as much as it scared me.  I finally decided that some of the ways I’ve been trying to become the best version of myself haven’t been working so hot so I pulled the trigger. Master motivator Tony Robbins says it like this, “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.” I made the decision to attend a retreat for women that would help me tap much more deeply into my faith.

Retreat is not an accurate word at all. It was hard work, some of the toughest I have ever done. The event didn’t happen in a huge hyped-up auditorium full of attendees. Instead, it was smallish and quiet and intimate and safe. It was in a surprisingly beautiful little spot tucked away in the middle of nowhere, impossible to see from the road. Masks came off, honesty and truth were unearthed and beauty was unveiled. Everyone fails, everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect. But, every part of our life is a necessary part of our journey and becomes part of the fabric of who we are. And, we learned to wear it with pride and dignity.

Growing deeper in our faith

Each of us came away reminded of how precious we are to our Creator and how much we are loved. The hardest part of forgiveness can be when we offer it to ourself.  It’s often so hard to accept it but we all need to own our story and understand how beauty can come from ashes. Wholehearted living begins when we accept and embrace our human imperfection and learn to hold tight to our Heavenly Father. It was a life-changing weekend. Let me know if you’d like to know more. Reach out to me, it would bring me joy! See you Thursday!

Very well said. Amen. Both Dr David Jeremiah and Rev Robert Schuler have new books that you would like. Ironically, they cover many of the same topics as often mentioned with happiness. The difference is the books are faith based. Big difference.
